Eco-Schools is an international award programme that guides schools on their sustainable journey, providing a simple framework to help make sustainability an integral part of school life.
Eco-Schools helps to enhance the curriculum and get the whole school united behind something important.
Our mission at Dallas Road is to help bring about behaviour change in young people and those connected to them so that good habits learned in schools are followed through into homes and communities.
What do Eco-Schools do?
We registered as a school in September 2010 and are in the process of working our way through the accreditation process to achieve full green flag status.
We achieved our silver status in 2013.
In order to achieve each level of accreditation we have to demonstrate that we are addressing a variety of environmental themes, ranging from litter and waste to healthy living and biodiversity – 9 themes in all.
Our children are the driving force behind our eco-committee and are helping us to carry out an audit to assess the environmental performance of the school.
In conjunction with the rest of the school and the wider community, it’s the children who decide which themes they want to address and how they’re going to do it.
The Eco-Schools programme is a long term journey and implementing change takes time and needs careful planning and consideration. At Dallas Road we think that it's a journey well worth taking and we intend to persevere and attempt to educate our school family in ways in which they can support us to achieve our aims.
If you would like to get involved in helping us to achieve our aims then please contact Mrs Hardwick in school.
