Dallas RoadCommunity Primary School

Update from Mr Wright 11/09/20

11th September 2020

Dear Parents/Carers

Well done on getting through the first week. There are a lot of tired children and staff around school today – no doubt it is the same for you. Thank you to all of those who have whole-heartedly and consistently followed the systems and protocols we have established in keeping everyone safe. We accept that these may not be perfect and some appear confusing – we continue to reflect and refine and ask that you continue in the ways we have outlined.

Children and staff have had a really positive week. Socially, emotionally and academically things are gradually returning to normal. It has been a great pleasure to spend time in each class learning children’s names, characters and building relationships. What an incredible group of children. Hopefully by the end of next week time will have been spent with every child.

Year 6 have been working with great wisdom and insight to help improve breaktime and lunchtime play provision and will hopefully be sharing their thinking with the rest of the school via video next week. The children have a powerful voice that we will build and develop to effect positive change in our school.

Start of the day

As the week has progressed there have been more people arriving late to school. The gates are open from 8:40 until 9:00am. The gates are remaining open until 9:00am – however, all children should be in school by 8:55am (Reception children should also arrive by 8:55am from Monday 14th Sept).

Those arriving after 9:00am, and having to enter through the office, are adding to the risk for all of us in the Dallas Road school community. Please arrive on time – if each of us were to think ‘it’s just once’ or ‘it’s only me’ then potentially 420 children are arriving late. We all have a role to play in maintaining our collective safety.

What to do if your child has symptoms

If your child is displaying symptoms of a new and persistent, dry cough or a high temperature or a loss of taste/smell, please keep them at home and arrange a test http:www.gov.uk/get-coronavirus-test. Please follow the school absence policy and call the school before 9:00am to report that your child will be absent and reason why. On receipt of the test result please contact school and inform us of the outcome – we can then take any necessary next steps. If you have your child tested please keep any siblings off school as well until you receive a negative test or the isolation period has expired.

You know your child/ren best and will recognise whether a cough is new, persistent or dry in relation to what they are normally like when full of a cold or the flu. It is important that you are able to recognise that distinction when making your decision to send your child/ren to school. At the same time, we recognise the importance of caution and the sense of needing to test if concerned. We all need to be able to balance the need for minimum further disruption to each child’s learning and the need to keep everyone safe – wisdom and openness is required in our interactions with one another on this issue.

There are no confirmed cases of coronavirus in school at this stage.

Uniform

During this time of disruption, we recognise that it may have been more difficult to arrange the purchase of school uniform. Please note that expectations related to the wearing of the correct uniform - particularly the appropriate footwear and school jumper (the hoodie is for PE only) will be closely monitored from January. Please make every effort to ensure your child is wearing the appropriate uniform as soon as possible – if this causes any form of challenge for you please contact either Mr Wright (head@dallasroad.lancs.sch.uk) or Mrs Long (pastoral@dallasroad.lancs.sch.uk).

Meet the Teacher

Sadly, we will not be able to conduct face-to-face Meet the Teacher sessions this year. This is always a great chance to build new relationships with one another, understand how your child’s new class systems work and find out what they are learning about. In place of a physical meeting, each class teacher has created a PowerPoint with video links in it to do all that we would have hope to share normally. This will be available via each class’ webpage on our website. We hope that this helps.

We hope that you have a good weekend

Phil Wright (and the whole school team)
