Welcome to Year 2!
Go to Curriculum Overview to find out more about our topics.
Mr. Brown (2B), supported by Mrs Fisher and Miss Jackson, and Mrs Windett-Smith (2W), supported by Mr Wilding, work together in Year 2. If you wish to see us about any issues concerning your child please arrange an appointment to see us at surgery time on a Monday after school. If it is an urgent matter please call in either just before school starts or straight after school, although we may only have a short time to spare. Mrs Fairclough is the team leader for Key Stage 1.
The children in Year 2 have both indoor and outdoor PE on Wednesdays during the second half of the Autumn Term. (Please note that this has changed from Tuesdays which was the first half term)
As always we are grateful for any help parents can give us in school. If you have an hour or two to spare and would like to come and help in any way we would make you most welcome.
Your child has reading opportunities everyday in their English lessons. They will also read with the class teacher weekly, in guided reading sessions. In addition to this, your child will have a specific reading day when they will read 1:1 with an adult. Please ensure that your child brings their books and book bag to school every day as there may be opportunities for your child to read more regularly than this. The books are at a level appropriate to your child's ability and the home readers are banded by a colour to match with this.
We follow a variety of different reading schemes such as: Oxford Reading Tree, Project X, Pearson and Ginn. Children will also take part in regular spelling, grammar and punctuation sessions. Reading for pleasure is a crucial part of the Year 2 curriculum and to support this we will share many class novels with the children and take time to visit the school library.
The book band colours that your child will move through are as follows:
Red, yellow, blue, green, orange, turquoise, purple, gold, white, lime, brown, grey, free reader.
We will keep you updated on our learning in class via weekly emails, which will also include weekly spellings and mental maths practise. There will be a half termly creative homework set via email as well and during the last week of half term there will be a day to share and celebrate all creative homework.
