P.E. Funding 2015-16 and 2016-17

For many years we have worked hard to ensure that all of our children have access to a varied and exciting programme of sport and P.E., both in school lessons and via the extra-curricular opportunities we offer.

Our children enjoy participation and competition - they work hard and recognise that keeping fit and healthy is a life-long goal. Our P.E. curriculum is broad and balanced.

As a school community we were delighted when the Government announced that every primary school in the country would receive a substantial (and ring-fenced) sum of money that must be used to raise levels of participation and enable all children to make life-long positive choices.

We have invested and are continuing to invest in improving our grounds to ensure there is longevity in the impact of our spending. One aspect of our spending has been to provide continued professional development in PE for all staff as needed. We have also tried to prioritise spending on enriching and exciting experiences to inspire children to engage in an active and healthy lifestyle.

In 2016-17 we received £9775 and carried forward £245.93

Sports partnership Membership:

  • Lancaster and Heysham SSN
  • Training opportunities for staff to embed PE teaching skills.
  • Competitions for children in a range of sports.

  • Every child in the school has had within school time 3 opportunities to experience archery
  • A subsidised, out of hours,  archery club was run from September to December

  • Year 5 Orienteering day following taught unit of work
  • Year 4 one night residential

Contribution to playground developments

  • Following a successful bid to Sport England for £30,000 additional funding was added to complete the ‘games area and climbing wall’ that were added to the playground.

The playground has been enhanced with a discrete games area and new traversing wall which extends the Games opportunities into playtimes as well as curriculum time.

  • Professional development for TA3 in Reception to develop the outdoor area and opportunities for physical development in the continuous provision

Outdoor area for EYFS has been transformed following training to deliver more opportunities for physical development skills to be extended.

Funding for extra-curricular provision

  • Supported new opportunities in Y3-4 and KS1 – ‘Energise’, Rounders and netball

More opportunities for younger children in the school to access PE based extra-curricular activities – all clubs were over-subscribed.

  • Archery opportunities for everyone in the school

Every child had the opportunity to experience the sport of archery delivered by expert coaches.

  • Gymnastics equipment purchased to support provision

Age appropriate benches were bought that the children are able to manoeuvre and access more easily in gymnastics sessions.
