The Prevent Strategy

From July 2015 all schools (as well as other organisations) have a duty to safeguard children from extremism and radicalisation. This means we have a responsibility to protect children from violent and extremist views in the same way we protect them from other dangers.

 

Much of what we do in school to help children become happy, positive members of society can contribute towards the Prevent Strategy.

 

This includes:

  • Exploring other cultures, religions and celebrating diversity.
  • Challenging prejudices and racist comments.
  • The development of critical thinking skills and a strong, positive sense of identity.
  • Promoting the spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of our pupils.

 

British Values

It has been necessary for schools to promote British values since 2014. This also plays a part in our response to the Prevent Strategy.

British Values include:

  • Democracy
  • The Rule of Law
  • Individual Liberty and Mutual Respect
  • Tolerance of different faiths and beliefs
  • Educate Against Hate Advice for parents, teachers and school leaders on protecting children from radicalisation and extremism.
